Christian Ehwald is professor in conducting at Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin. He studied with Arvid and Maris Janssons and is a much sought-after conductor both in and outside of Europe. He is currently artistic director and chief conductor of Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra in China and has previuosly been a guest conductor at the Berlin Philharmonic, Staatskappelle Dresden and St.Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2002 he was appointed professor in Conducting at Hanns Eisler School of Music and is today a well renowned conducting teacher. We are very much looking forward to welcoming him at Conductor’s Week 2019.

The masterclass with the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra will last three days and includes one day of piano rehearsal/preparation and two days with the orchestra. The orchestra rehearsals will be held in the acclaimed Fartein Valen hall. Eight applicants will be selected for the course and they will recieve podium time both days with the orchestra.

R. Schumann: Overture to Manfred, op. 115
W. A. Mozart: Overture to the Magic Flute, K.620
