Prof. Pasquet was supposed to lead the masterclass in 2020, but due to travel and quarantine restrictions we were not able to welcome either international participants of prof. Pasquet last year. We hope the situation for the 2021 masterclass will be brighter and that we again will be able to welcome international participants.

Nicolás Pasquet is one of the most renowned and sought-after conducting professors. He is professor of Orchestral Conducting at the University of Music Franz Liszt in Weimar, Germany. Pasquet was appointed this position in 1994 and today, the conducting studies in Weimar has become one of the world’s leading conducting classes.

Pasquet, from Uruguay, moved to Germany to complete his studies. As a young conductor he won several conducting competitions both in Germany and France. Following the competitions, he worked with several German and European orchestras. He has been chief conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of Pecs, Hungary, Neubrandenburger Philharmonie and Coburg State Theater Orchestra in Germany, as well as regular guest-conductor appearances with Deutschlandfünk Köln, DeutschlandRadio Berlin and the Bavarian Orchestra. His work with these orchestras also includes several CD recordings and tours.

The repertory for the masterclass with the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra will be:

  • Ludwig van Beethoven: Egmont Overture, op. 84
  • Johannes Brahms: Symphoni no. 3, op. 90, 1. and 2. movement
  • Antonin Dvorak: The Noon Witch, op. 108

The dates for the masterclass is August 8-10 2021. This includes one day of piano rehearsal and two days with the orchestra. There will be up to 8 active participants at the course. Each participant will receive about 20 – 25 min of podium time with the orchestra each day.
